About Mouth Ulcers

What Are Mouth Ulcers?

A mouth ulcer (also known as   « aphtous stomatitis [1] » or « ucanker sore ») is a painful, white or yellowish, round or oval lesion with a red halo that develops in the mouth. The areas most often affected are the tongue, the gums, the inside of the cheeks, and the lips [2].

Mouth ulcers affect 15 to 30% of the population, women more often than men. Many of our clients who used to suffer from mouth ulcers have now eliminated this problem thanks to Pure Hazelwood necklaces and bracelets. Read their testimonials here.

What Causes Mouth Ulcers?

Mouth ulcers are not contagious [3]. These lesions can have multiple causes, including :

  • Accidental biting of the inside of the cheeks, of the lips, or of the tongue.
  • Stress
  • Smoking
  • Burning your mouth consuming foods or beverages that are too hot
  • A weakened immune system (cold, flu)
  • Hormonal changes
  • A deficiency in vitamins and/or minerals
  • General irritation caused by dental equipment, uneven teeth, or a broken tooth

In some rarer cases, mouth ulcers can be a symptom of a disease or tumour, or a reaction to medication or treatment.

Treating Mouth Ulcers

Most mouth ulcers disappear in 10 to 14 days. However, some lesions can last for up to 6 weeks. Many treatments and home remedies can relieve mouth ulcer pain. Consulting a doctor is imperative, especially if the sores are recurring, large, or plentiful.

Preventing Mouth Ulcers

Here are a few tips on how to prevent mouth ulcers breakouts.

  • Avoid food or drinks that are too hot.
  • Chew food slowly.
  • Use a toothbrush with soft bristles.
  • Consult a dentist if your lesions seem to be caused by uneven teeth or a broken tooth.

Testimonial

"My grandchildren wore (the necklace) for teething and it seemed very effective. When I learnt that it could make mouth ulcers disappear, I was skeptical… But since I had been trying to get rid of them for 50 years and had never really succeeded, I told myself I had nothing to lose… I have been wearing a necklace since 2001 and, marvellously, I have no more ulcers, completely naturally. I simply cannot believe it! THANK YOU SO MUCH."
