What Is Joint Pain?

Articulations are the joints that link bones to each other. Their function is to protect the bones from impacts and to offer the skeleton some mobility. As they are constantly solicited, we don’t pay much attention to them until the day the first aches begin: stiffness, difficulty getting up, bending down, or climbing the stairs… This pain is due to the body’s natural ageing. What Is the Difference Between Arthritis and Osteoarthritis?

Arthritis and osteoarthritis are two very similar afflictions. They are both in the rheumatism family and cause joint pain. The main difference is the nature of the pain. Arthritis is an inflammatory disease that affects the patient even at rest. Pain can subside with activity. On the other hand, osteoarthritis is more likely to cause pain during movement, due to a change in the cartilage. This is why we call osteoarthritis a «  mechanical » disease.

What Causes Joint Pain?

Many factors can cause or worsen joint pain:

  • Being overweight
  • Muscular atrophy due to sedentariness
  • Stress, fatigue
  • Bad sitting posture
  • External factors such as cold, humidity, drafts

Here are a few tips to prevent and minimize joint pain.

  • Eat a balanced diet
  • Exercise regularly
